Amazon Flex Overview

Amazon Flex is a courier service to deliver packages or groceries. It can be a good source of income. Flex drivers earn up to $25 an hour and deliver for Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, and Prime Now. In one shift, you could spend it delivering packages, dinner, or groceries. Earnings are made within days via direct deposit.

What is Amazon Flex?

Amazon Flex is an independent contractor job delivering packages from Amazon using your own vehicle with your chosen schedule.

With Flex, you make deliveries for:

Amazon.com: You might be delivering anything sold on the website. You’ll pick up orders from an Amazon delivery station near you.

Amazon Fresh and Prime Now: Deliver groceries and household supplies from a delivery station.

Instant Offers: Based on your location, deliver one-off packages. It’s not available everywhere.

Store Orders: Pick up orders to deliver from local stores and Amazon restaurants instead of a delivery station.

With the Amazon Flex app, you can view available schedules, reserve delivery block times to organize your schedule, and follow the instructions to complete package and grocery deliveries.

Where is Amazon Flex Available?

Amazon Flex is available nationwide. New driver opportunities are based on needs in a specific area. Find available driver slots through the website. If your location has no openings, you can add yourself to a waiting list to be alerted when new opportunities open.

How Easy to Make Deliveries

Within the Flex app, the delivery process is made easy. You are notified of your block start time and receive a notification one hour in advance to head over to your starting location. Once at the pickup location, you’ll load your vehicle and follow the instructions in the app to deliver the packages. Everything you need is in the app.

If issues arise and you can’t make it to your schedule block, you can cancel 45 minutes before the start time. Not doing so can be a negative mark on your track record. When problems are encountered during delivery or packages are undeliverable you have direct access to support staff.

How Flex Drivers Get Paid

How much can I make doing Amazon Flex? That all depends on how many blocks completed and the car type. Amazon Flex drivers can make between $18 and $25 per hour based on car capacity. Someone with a larger car can deliver more packages. For example, driving a minivan is eligible to earn more than someone with a midsize car.

To get the most pay, schedule delivery blocks during busy times or choose deliveries with tipping. You can identify busy times and deliveries with tips in the app.

Payday: Paid twice weekly. Payment days are Tuesdays and Fridays, and standard delivery drivers are paid on their most recent deliveries. Deliveries with tipping are paid after tips are processed.

Payment: Made via direct deposit.

Amazon flex does not pay for gas.

How to Become an Amazon Flex Driver

The hardest part is getting started. It isn’t available everywhere and spots can be limited. If there are no available spots, you can sign up and wait for future independent contractor recruitment.

To be an Amazon Flex driver, you must:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Own a smartphone with the Amazon Flex app downloaded
  • Have a four-door SUV, van, pickup with a covered bed, or midsize vehicle
  • Have car insurance

Drivers are covered under Amazon’s commercial policy free in all areas except New York. In NY, you may need rideshare auto insurance added. Understand your personal car insurance policy will not cover you while you’re making deliveries.
