“Money can’t buy happiness.”
We’ve all heard the phrase.
And yet, money touches every part of our lives. It determines where we live, the opportunities we have, and even how we feel day to day.
The truth I’ve learned—through my own struggles and through writing Happy Money Happy Life—is that money can buy happiness.
But not in the way most people think.
Money buys happiness when it supports your wellbeing.
For years, I chased the traditional definition of success: make more money, climb the career ladder, collect the stuff.
But what I discovered was that despite having more, I didn’t feel better.
In fact, I felt worse—stressed, overworked, and disconnected.
That experience led me to explore the connection between money and wellness.
What I found changed the way I think about both:
Money is not separate from life—it’s interwoven into every dimension of our wellbeing.
In Happy Money Happy Life, I share a framework of eight dimensions of wellness—each with its own “happy” expression.
These aren’t abstract ideas; they’re lived experiences that show how money impacts every part of our lives.
Each dimension is connected.
Strengthening one strengthens the others. Neglecting one can ripple into the rest.
This is why I created the Money & Wellbeing Hub here on phroogal.
It’s a place to explore each “happy dimension” in depth, with practical steps you can take to improve your money—and your life.
Too often, money is talked about only in terms of numbers: budgets, debts, investments.
But the truth is: money is about life.
How we manage it determines whether it creates stress and restriction—or freedom and wellbeing.
When we use money to support our wellness, it becomes a tool for happiness.
Not because we buy more stuff, but because we buy more peace of mind, more freedom, and more joy.
Money can buy happiness—but only when it’s used in alignment with your values, your health, and your purpose.
When you view money not just as dollars but as a tool to support your wellbeing, you open the door to a life that’s not just richer, but fuller.
Because at the end of the day, the goal isn’t more money. The goal is to live well—and let money be the tool that helps you get there.
If you want to dive deeper, you’ll find even more in my book Happy Money Happy Life, and inside the Smile Money Academy where we walk step by step through building a financial system that supports every dimension of your wellbeing.
