In our RentAFriend review, we discovered that people rent friends for many reasons. On Reddit, a user stated they rented older friends to act as parents for an event. This sounds like an interesting way to use a rentable friend. In a Pennyhoarder article, a writer stated that a friend he met and interviewed from the service started as a paid bridesmaid. There are only a few Trustpilot reviews sharing that the site might be a scam because of its unusability for setting up proper profiles.
In continuing our review of RentAFriend, we could not find someone who has used the service as a side hustle, but we did get an anonymous tip. This person said being a Rent-a-Friend helped them make about $10 an hour. Now, it’s not much money, considering the time commitment and meeting strangers. However, it may be a good side hustle for the very social type who enjoys meeting new people.
A word of caution: Be mindful of fraudsters, scammers, and anyone asking for or offering friendship and companionship to lure you into risky investments, crypto schemes, and romance scams.
