After-hours trading is stock trading outside the regular hours of major exchanges such as the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq Stock Market. Regular trading hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The after-hours trading session can run as late as 8 PM, although volume typically thins out much earlier in the session. Trading in the after-hours is conducted through electronic communication networks (ECNs)
