How can I support myself and make money in a way that doesn’t conflict with my values?
We live in a world where often times we feel pushed into doing things that are not in alignment with our sense of right and wrong – selling goods and services that cause more problems than they solve, buying and selling products that exploit workers in poor countries, cheating on government forms and taxes, creating products that play on human weaknesses, and the list goes on and on. For that reason, it is not uncommon to find ourselves in jobs that make us feel bad yet at the same time without much in the way of options.
Rather than focusing so much on your outer experience (the effects of the job), take some time to look inside and see if there is something inside of you that could use some ‘freshening up’ as everything in life starts with your own personal behaviors and habits first. If you want the world to be a cleaner place, pay close attention to what you are doing in your own actions to live more cleanly. If you want the world to be a more peaceful place, live a life grounded in peace – take time to make amends with friends and family who you may have had difficulty with in the past. If you want your work to be more values based, look deep inside your own life and see what you uncover. Chances are there are some skeletons in your closet just waiting to be found and let go of. The good news is that the job of your dreams is waiting for you just around the bend, as soon as you slow down, breath, reflect, let go and start creating it.
